Arabez Smith, LMSW

Arabez Smith has worked previously with elders at the Tompkins County Office for the Aging and with children and teens at the Ithaca Waldorf School. Her interest is in supporting individuals, couples and families to find the internal resources to grow beyond barriers to mental health such as interpersonal conflict, mood disorders, and trauma.

Arabez embraces strengths-based and trauma-informed approaches to counseling and draws from a deep well of empathy for the needs of teens and young adults exploring the gender spectrum and their LGBTQ+ identity. Her facilitation work with couples and families, as well as small and large groups, to find common ground has been incredibly rewarding and built a powerful skill set for deepening and healing intimate relationships. She believes in the efficacy of cognitive-behavioral therapies, as well as mindfulness practice and solution-focused work to create personal reservoirs of resilience.

Outside of the office Arabez spends time with her kids, and enjoys extended canoe trips through the Ontario wilderness. She and her family live in a cohousing community with the mission to promote sustainable lifestyles and climate action.
